Summary
MCS requires a PV array mounting system to take into account weight, wind, and snow loads. On OpenSolar, you can generate the Structural Assessment report, which will help you ensure that the roof structure is capable of withstanding the loads imposed by the PV modules and their mounting arrangements.
Steps to generate a Structural Assessment report:
Go to the Manage Tab > Scroll down to the Documents Section > Select + Add Document > Select Generate Document
- From the drop-down, select "UK - Structural Report (MCS)" and the system option you want to generate the file for. Once this is selected, click on Next.
Fill in the "Roof Details" for Roof 1
(Please note: Roof 1 and Roof 2 are different panel groups in the system option. You are required to fill in details for each panel group separately.
Click on "Roof construction type" and select the type from the dropdown:
- Add the "Mounting system weight (kg)" as required
Each "Roof construction type" has different inputs that you are required to fill in for the specific roof type. For example, we chose "Trussed pitch", you can enter the "Fixing length", "Fixing diameter", "Fixing quantity" for trussed pitch as per your requirement, as shown below:
Once you fill in all the details for your roof you can the scroll down to "Site Details" where you can choose the "Windspeed Zone". You can check the zone as shown in the image and select the required zone from the dropdown options.
(Please note: the site details are ONLY required for Trussed Pitched roof structures)
You can then select the "Terrain Category", "Distance from site to sea", "Topography", and fill in the "Altitude" as required:
Select the "Snow Zone". You can check the zone in the image and select the option from the dropdown:
You can then click on "Roof 2," which is the second panel group in the system design, and repeat the steps as above:
Please note: Site Details will be pre-filled when you select Roof 2
