Frequently Asked Questions
Introduction
The Bill of Materials (BOM) drawer is located on the right-hand side of the Design page. It is a dynamic tool that gives you real-time visibility into the components added to a system design. It provides crucial pricing and sourcing context as you build, ensuring transparency and accuracy throughout the design process.
What Does the RHS BOM Show?
The drawer consists of two main sections:
Component Breakdown – This section shows all components added to the current design, including:
Component code
Quantity
Unit price
Source of the unit price (e.g., Distributor or Manual)
Total price (calculated as Quantity × Unit Price)
This breakdown is updated in real time as you add or remove components using the left-hand design toolbar.
Distributor Connection – This section lists the distributors available in your geographic location. It helps you:
Identify whether your organisation is connected to any distributors.
Confirm if pricing is being pulled from a valid distributor connection.
When to Use the RHS BOM Drawer?
The RHS BOM is especially helpful while you’re still designing a system. Unlike the COGS Override Modal—which is more commonly used in the review phase—the RHS BOM lets you:
Review and validate component additions as you go
Check for missing or incorrect pricing information early in the process
Confirm whether components are correctly sourced from a distributor or manual entry
Understanding the Source Dropdown
Each component listed in the RHS BOM includes a source dropdown, allowing you to review or change the cost source. Any updates made here will automatically reflect in both the COGS Override Modal and the COGS breakdown in the Pricing tab, ensuring consistency across the system’s pricing view.
Options you will see:
-
Distributor – Available if:
Your organisation is based in Australia, the United Kingdom, or the United States
You’ve enabled at least one distributor.
That distributor offers the selected component.
Manual Pricing – This source reflects your own organisation’s pricing configuration. It appears with your organisation’s logo.
💡 Need to override pricing for a specific project? Refer to the COGS Override Modal Help Centre Article to learn how.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why Are Some Components Missing Images or Descriptions?
If you notice components without images, product titles, or stock information, it’s likely because the component is NOT sourced from a distributor. You can confirm this by checking the source dropdown, which would show the selected distributor.
Why is the Bill of Materials (BOM) Drawer Not Appearing on My Design Page?
The Bill of Materials (BOM) drawer will only appear if your organisation has at least one active distributor connection.
Currently, Shop distributors are available in:
- Australia
- United Kingdom
- United States (Beta)
If you don’t see the BOM drawer, confirm that:
- Your organisation is based in a supported region, and
- At least one distributor connection has been successfully enabled.
