Component Selector with Distributors
If your organisation has one or more connected distributors, the component selector will display the following version:
Displayed data is sample content for visual reference only.
How does the Component Selector work?
The component selector allows you to:
Choose a component to add to your design proposal.
-
Compare pricing sources side by side:
Your manual pricing (if set in Control > Design & Hardware).
Live distributor pricing from connected distributors.
Review additional details such as stock availability and price variations, which dynamically update based on the selected source.
When comparing sources, you can select your preferred pricing and add it to your design proposal. This ensures that the chosen cost source is included in your final purchase price calculations.
Component Selector without Distributors
If your organisation does not have any connected distributors, you will see a simplified version:
Displayed data is sample content for visual reference only.
Admin controls for component visibility
As an admin, you can hide the “All” view from the component selector to ensure your team can only select components from your activated “My List”.
To do this, you can update a certain role in Control > Company > Custom Roles. The “Create” checkbox for “Hardware components” controls whether a certain role has access to the “All” component view. If unchecked, that role will only see components from your activated “My List”.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I don’t select a source before clicking “Select”?
If no source chip is selected, the system will default to using your manual pricing from Control > Design & Hardware, provided a manual price has been set for that component.
This ensures that a valid price is applied whenever possible, even if you don’t manually choose a distributor. If no manual price exists for the component, you may need to update your settings before the component can be costed correctly.
What happens if I don’t have a Manual Pricing set?
The system will still add the selected component to the design proposal, but the price displayed and used for calculations will be zero.
You can set your manual pricing by following the instructions outlined in this article.
Can I view Manual Pricing in the Component Selector without distributors?
Currently, the Stock, Price and Source columns in the component selector will only appear if your organisation has one or more connected distributors. This functionality is exclusive to hardware ordering.
If you’d like to see manual pricing appear without a distributor connection, please contact OpenSolar Support to share your feedback.
Can I pre-set a preferred source?
Yes, you can! Please visit our Supplier Preference Settings article for more information.
