Introduction
The COGS Override Modal is a pop-up tool that displays the list of components included in a system design, along with the source of each component’s cost. It helps you to understand and control the cost inputs that go into a system’s pricing and is especially useful during the review stage of a project, after system design is complete. These costs contribute to the overall COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) section in the Price Breakdown.
This modal enables pros to:
View each component’s cost.
See where that cost is sourced from.
Override default values for a particular project.
Displayed data is sample content for visual reference only.
How do I Access the Modal?
Go to the Pricing tab.
Scroll to the Price Breakdown section.
Click the “Customise Hardware Cost” button.
-
A pop-up modal will appear, displaying:
All components in the system.
Their individual costs.
The source of each cost is pulled from.
Available Cost Sources
Each component’s cost is derived from one of the following sources:
-
Distributor
Based on your organisation's geographic location. Currently available in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The system automatically pulls prices from designated partner distributors.
-
Manual (Design & Hardware Control Settings)
This refers to the “Cost per unit” set in:
Control > Design & Hardware > [Component Category] > Edit any component > Scroll down to the bottom of the component settings to view or update the “Cost per unit”.
-
Override (for this project)
Use this when you want to input a custom cost that differs from the Manual value. The override applies only to the current project and does not impact your general Control settings.
What’s the Dropdown at the Top For?
The dropdown at the top of the modal allows you to bulk assign a cost source to all components in the list. This is particularly useful for quick updates, especially when transitioning between pricing sources across the board.
Note: A bulk update will only apply if the component is available from the selected source. If a component is not available from that source, its cost will remain unchanged.
You can choose between:
- Distributor
- Manual (Design & Hardware Control Settings)
After applying a bulk update, you can still override cost sources on a per-component basis as needed.
Displayed data is sample content for visual reference only.
How can I verify that the changes made in the modal have been applied correctly?
After you've made changes in the modal and saved them, the modal will close automatically. Then, navigate to the LHS Design Toolbar and review the component cost breakdown to verify the updates. This view shows you the total cost per component category. This step ensures that your overrides or source changes are correctly reflected in the system.
If your organisation is based in Australia, the United Kingdom, or the United States, and you have at least one distributor enabled, you’ll notice a Bill of Materials drawer appears on the right-hand side of the Design page. This drawer helps confirm:
- The system components are included in the design.
- The cost source (Distributor/Manual/Override) is applied to each.
- That final pricing reflects your configuration accurately.
