Summary:
OpenSolar now supports the ability to use multiple panel types on a single project design. This enhancement allows you to model more complex installations where a single panel type cannot be used.
With this new functionality, you can assign different panel models to different arrays within the same design—while continuing to use all of OpenSolar’s powerful design tools.
How to Add Multiple Panel Types to Your Design:
Follow the steps below to start using multiple panel types on a single system:
Add Your First Panel Array:
- Select your + Panel button and draw out your array.
Note: By default, the panel type applied will be your default module (set in your Design Settings).
- You can see the panel selected within the Panel Tab on the left-hand side menu.
Add a Second Panel Array:
- Click on the + Panels button again to add a new array to your design.
- Use the panel drop-down next to the + Panel button to pick a different panel for the array.
- Select "Add a new panel type"
- Use the pop-up to locate and select a new panel
- Draw out your array with the new panel type.
Changing the panel type within the panel array menu:
As an optional step, or if you want to change the panel for the array in the future. You can do so using the menu for the array.
To achieve this:
- Select the array you want to apply a different panel type
- Click on the panel type drop-down
- In the pop-up, locate and select the new panel you want to assign to that array.
Continue Your Design as Usual
Once the arrays are configured, you can proceed with system design and proposal generation as normal. All other design tools—such as optimization, electrical stringing, shading analysis, and proposal customization—remain fully supported.
The panel tab will display all the panels added and the arrays each are added to:
