What is the Commission Feature?
The Commission feature in OpenSolar enables dynamic and intelligent compensation models for sales teams. Once configured, a commission will automatically apply to a project based on the assigned user, who by default is the project creator (but this can be changed on the project’s Manage page).
Getting Started with Commissions:
Navigate to Control > Pricing & Payments > Commissions.
Click the “+ Add Commissions” button to create a new commission.
Commission Fields Explained:
When creating a commission, you'll need to complete the following fields:
Title - A unique name for your commission. This will appear in the Design > Pricing section when selected or auto-applied.
Commission Base Percentage (%) - A percentage applied to the base price (excluding adders, discounts, or overrides; includes price adjustments).
Example: 5% of $30,000 = $1,500.Commission Base Price ($) - A fixed dollar amount added on top of the calculated percentage.
Note: Not limited by the "Max Additional Commission" setting.Surcharge (%) - A bonus percentage applied to price adders.
Example: If surcharge is 10% and a $5,000 adder is applied → $500 additional commission.Discount (%) - A deduction based on price reductions from the base price.
Example: 100% discount on a $2,000 price drop = $2,000 reduction in commission.
Note: Commission cannot go below $0.Max Additional Commission Amount ($) - A cap on additional commission gained from surcharges.
Example: Even if surcharge calculation exceeds $3,000, commission bonus is limited to $3,000.Team Members This Commission Applies To - Select the users this commission should auto-apply to when they’re assigned to a project.
Note: Each team member can only have one active commission assigned. You’ll receive a warning if a user already has a commission. Is Archived - Archiving hides a commission from use but preserves its history in existing projects.
Archived commissions appear as "(Archived)" in project dropdowns.
Use the "Show Archived" button in the Commissions list to view or unarchive them.
How Commissions Are Applied:
Commissions auto-apply when the assigned project user matches a team member in the commission's "Team Members" list.
-
In Design > Pricing, you'll see the applied commission and can:
Choose a different commission
Apply no commission
Manually override the commission amount
Commission Calculation Formula:
Final commission is calculated using:
Commission = (Base % × Base Price) + Fixed Base Price
Then:
-
If Final Price > Base Price:
Add:Surcharge % × (Final Price – Base Price)(Capped by Max Additional Commission Amount)
-
If Final Price < Base Price:
Subtract:Discount % × (Final Price – Base Price)
Note: Commission can not be reduced below $0
Filtering Projects by Commission:
Go to your Projects list.
Click Filter (top-right).
Choose “Commission Used” and select the commission.
This will show all projects using the selected commission.
Commission Data in Project CSV Exports:
In the Projects list, click “Download” (bottom-left).
You’ll receive a CSV file with project data.
If exporting more than 100 projects, the CSV includes limited data.
To include commission fields:
Filter your list to fewer than 100 projects.
-
Then export for detailed fields like:
commission_titlecommission_amount
Use filters such as project creation date or commission used to narrow the list.
