Summary
OpenSolar gives you full flexibility to customize system pricing for any project using Price Adders, Discounts, and Manual Pricing. You can apply cost and price adjustments on a per-system basis, build and reuse predefined adjustments through an Adder Library, and set rules for auto-application. OpenSolar supports multiple pricing schemes, as well as manual overrides, ensuring accurate and tailored proposals for your customers.
Additionally, you can manage non-solar pricing exclusions to correctly model incentives like the US Federal ITC, which may apply only to a portion of the system cost.

Adders & Discounts: Customizing System Price
How to Access and Add an Adder or Discount
In the Design tab, go to Pricing in the left toolbar.
Click “+ Adder/Discount”.
Choose an adder from the Adder Library or click “Enter Manually” to create a new one.
Use a negative value (e.g., -100) to create a discount.
Fields Explained for Manual Adders
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Adder Type | Choose whether this adder impacts Price, Cost, or Both. |
| Label | Name of the adder (e.g., “Site Inspection”). |
| Formula | Determines how the adder is calculated: - Fixed - Per Watt - Per Panel - Price Including/Excluding Tax (%) - Price Payable Including/Excluding Tax (%) |
| Unit Label (Fixed formula only) | Optional unit name for adder (e.g., “per inverter”). |
| Quantity (Fixed formula only) | Number of times the adder applies (e.g., 2 inverters). |
| Price Adder | Dollar amount for the price impact. Use negative value for discounts. |
| Cost Adder | Dollar amount for internal cost impact (exclusive of tax). |
| Tax (%) | Tax rate applied to Price Adder. |
| Show to Customer | Toggle to make the adder visible in the quotation table. |
| Dealer Fee Interaction Type | Defines how the dealer fee affects the adder: - No Dealer Fee Charged - Dealer Fee Charged - Apply to Adder - Dealer Fee Charged - Apply to Standard System Price |
All applied Price and Cost Adders are reflected in the Price Breakdown table for clear visibility.
Using the Adder Library
Admins can predefine commonly used Adders or Discounts and set rules to auto-apply them based on:
System size
Panel count
Location
Other design parameters
This saves time and ensures consistency across projects.
Manual Pricing Override
If no pricing scheme applies or a custom value is preferred:
In the Pricing section, click “Enter Price Manually”.
Enter the system price directly.
Add any relevant Adders or Discounts, which will adjust the manual price accordingly.
You still retain full control to modify the system price even when working manually.
Non-Solar Amount Included
When certain incentives (like the Federal ITC) do not apply to the full system price:
Navigate to Pricing > Non-Solar Amount Included
Input the dollar amount that should be excluded from incentive calculations
Example:
Total system price: $100,000
Only $80,000 qualifies for ITC
Enter $20,000 as the non-solar amount
This ensures your proposal models incentives accurately and avoids overestimation.
