Linking UtilityAPI & OpenSolar account:
Linking your UtilityAPI & OpenSolar account is quick and simple. It should only take a couple of minutes, and you only have to set this up once. Note: you need both a UtilityAPI account and an OpenSolar account in order to link.
Obtaining UtilityAPI token:
- Visit UtilityAPI.com and register a free account to get access to your own personalized dashboard.
Note: From this dashboard, you can request and download customer data.
- In your UtilityAPI dashboard, go to ‘Settings’ (1) in the top right-hand side of your dashboard, then click on ‘API Settings’ (2). Click on ‘Create API Token’ and then click on the ‘Show’ (3) dropdown menu to copy and paste the API Token Number:
Connect UtilityAPI in OpenSolar:
- Login to your account
- Click “Control” from the top header of your OpenSolar account
- Then click the “Other” dropdown and then “Integrations & API Keys” from the left-hand
- Lastly, paste your API key you copied from your UtilityAPI Settings and you’re all set!
Import UtilityAPI Interval Data into your OpenSolar Project:
Importing your UtilityAPI interval data with OpenSolar projects is quick and simple.
Note: you need both a UtilityAPI account and an OpenSolar account in order to link.
- Go to the energy tab within your project
- Click on the "UtilityAPI import" button found next to the data source drop-down.
- Add the address for the project on the address bar and select the import button.
Request UtilityAPI Interval Data for your OpenSolar Project:
Making a request to your customer, so that you can import their UtilityAPI interval data into OpenSolar projects is an easy process.
Note: you need both a UtilityAPI account and an OpenSolar account in order to link.
- From the OpenSolar project’s Energy page, you can click the button labeled “UtilityAPI Import”
- Then, click “Request Data For” the address of your OpenSolar Project. This will send the UtilityAPI authorization email to the customer, requesting their data for this project.
- Once the customer approves the authorization, interval data will automatically be imported into the OpenSolar project.

In addition to importing energy usage data, is there a way to utilize UtilityAPI to also validate the contact name, account, and meter number?
