Feature Summary
The PandaDoc integration allows you to seamlessly generate, send, and track professional contracts and documents directly from the OpenSolar platform. By automating the signature workflow—including countersignatures—you can close deals faster while ensuring all signed documents are automatically saved back to your project records.
If you do not yet have a Pandadoc account, but intend to utilise this integration, you can create a new account by clicking this link.
Interactive Demo
Try out our interactive demo to get up to speed on the integration:
1. Connecting Your OpenSolar and PandaDoc Accounts
Before you can send documents for signature, you must link your two accounts via a secure authentication process.
Navigate to Control > Other > Integrations & API Keys.
If you do not have a PandaDoc account: Click Sign up for PandaDoc and follow the instructions on the redirect page. Once your account is created, return to the Integrations page in OpenSolar.
If you already have an account: Click Connect your PandaDoc account.
You will be redirected to the PandaDoc login screen. Enter your credentials and authorize the connection.
Upon success, you will be redirected back to OpenSolar with a confirmation message indicating the accounts are now linked.
2. Configuring Templates with PandaDoc Integration
You can enable PandaDoc functionality for both text-based contracts and PDF-based document templates.
Enable Integration: When creating or editing a template, select PandaDoc from the Integration dropdown menu.
Adding Placeholders (Text Editor): In text editor mode, a PandaDoc placeholder menu will appear in the toolbar. Use this to insert dynamic data fields into your contract.
Adding Placeholders (PDF Editor): In the PDF drag-and-drop editor, select a project and click Load Sample Data. The PandaDoc placeholders will appear in the left-hand menu for you to drag onto your template.
-
Setting up Countersigners: Enable the PandaDoc Countersigner toggle to require a signature from your organization after the customer signs.
Dynamic Option: Set the Assigned Team Member for the project as the countersigner.
Fixed Option: Designate a specific individual to countersign all projects using this template.
Note: Always provide backup countersigner details (Email, First Name, Last Name) to ensure the process isn't delayed if a team member's profile is incomplete.
3. Sending Contracts and Documents for Signature
Once your templates are ready, you can trigger the signing process through the Proposal or the Document Generation tool.
Sending a Contract: Ensure your PandaDoc-enabled contract is applied to the proposal. When the customer accepts the proposal and clicks Review and Sign Contract, they will be redirected to the PandaDoc-provisioned document.
Generating a Document: Use the Generate Document tool and select your PandaDoc template. Choose the relevant system and payment option, then click Send PandaDoc Document.
Automation & Storage: Documents are sent via email to the address on the customer's project record. Once all parties (including countersigners) have signed, a final copy is emailed to the customer and automatically saved in the Project Document Repository for your records.
4. (California Only 🇺🇸) Consumer Protection Templates
For solar installers operating in California, presenting the California Solar Consumer Protection Guide and the Solar System Supporting Information Document before a contract is signed is a strict regulatory requirement for interconnection. These documents ensure homeowners are protected from misleading sales tactics and clearly understand the long-term financial impact of their solar investment.
To make compliance effortless, OpenSolar’s Pandadoc integration allows you to automatically include these mandatory consumer protection templates directly within your Pandadoc envelope. By simply configuring your OpenSolar contract templates, you ensure a compliant, all-in-one signing experience for your customers without disrupting your sales workflow.
Configuring Consumer Protection Guides in Your Template
Navigate to your contract templates by going to Control > Purchase Experience > Contract Template (or access it directly via this link).
Create a New contract template or click the Edit (pencil) icon next to an existing one.
Scroll down to the Integration dropdown and ensure that Pandadoc is selected.
Just below this, locate the Pandadoc Settings section and toggle on Enable Pandadoc Countersigner.
Find the Consumer Protection Guide Templates section (e.g., California Consumer Protection Guide Templates) and click the Manage Templates button.
-
A pop-up window will appear presenting forms for the specific consumer protection documents. Populate these fields with the required company and licensing information.
Note: The inputs you add to these forms will be universally applied to the generated Pandadoc envelope for any project utilizing this contract template.
Once the forms are completely filled out, click Save within the pop-up window.
Finally, ensure you click Save on the main contract template page to lock in your changes.
The Customer Experience
Once this setup is complete and the template is applied to a project, the signing process remains effortless for your customer. When they proceed to sign the contract online, they will automatically be presented with the mandatory consumer protection templates in addition to the primary contract document, all seamlessly bundled within the same Pandadoc envelope.
