Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) on OpenSolar

This article will walk you through how to generate and customise SLD's on OpenSolar. 

Please note that Single Line Diagrams are currently available in AU, US, CA, UK, DE, IT and ES.

What is a Single Line/Schematic Diagram ?

A Single Line Diagram (SLD) (also know as Schematic Diagrams) is a simplified representation of the components in an electrical system and denotes how the components are laid out. It can also give key information on installation details including voltage and current of stringing in the system. Generally it is used to communicate with an installer how the system will be connected. 

How can I create an SLD?

Single Line Diagrams or Schematic Diagrams on OpenSolar take information from the design of your project. You will need a design with relevant components and stringing to generate the fully populated template.

• Once you complete your design, make sure you save the project. After saving your project you can click on 'SLD' from the header:
  
  
  
  
• Select the panel system from the dropdown if you have multiple system options.
• The template will default to Org country, but if you want to design a project in another country, you can select the available templates from the second dropdown menu.
  
  
• Click on "Apply" after selecting the panel system and template. This will generate the diagram for your project as per your country.

System Specifications in the template are auto-populated as per your design.  It includes details of:

• Modules and Strings
• Inverters
• Batteries
• Project details

Please note: The information that is not entered in your project will appear as "NOT SPECIFIED" in the template.

How can you edit the template?

The template generated is editable. You can add/remove/copy shapes, lines, edit texts and details as per your requirements. 

Editing Text

Text size, font and colour can be altered in the Text tab of the format panel. Double-click on the text to get enhanced text options in the Format panel.

Moving or deleting objects

To move objects, first select them, then drag them to their new location.

You can easily remove selected objects using the Delete icon in the toolbar. This works for both single and multiple selected objects.

You can also delete objects by selecting the object(s), right click then select Delete (if you like to delete the shape with its connector, choose Cut instead) from the menu, or use the shortcut Ctrl+Delete (Cmd+Delete on a Mac).

If you want to copy an object, you can do so by going to View> Layers to select the highest visible layer in the diagram. 

You will notice a pop up box named "Layers" like this:

After selecting the highest visible layer, you will need to select the most recent activated object> Select it and then you will be able to copy the object in the diagram. 

Adding Objects 

Similarly, if you want to add objects in the design, you can do so by selecting the highest visible layer as mentioned above and then drag and drop the objects in the design. 

How to Save your SLD/Schematic Diagram? 

Once you complete editing your SLD/Schematics, you can save it by going to File> Save

After clicking Save, your SLD/Schematics file will get generated in Info section > Project files

You can download the file from clicking on the download button.

Please note: If you make any changes in your existing SLD/Schematics, it will replace the old template and generate the latest one in Project Files.

How can I add SLD/Schematics to my document template?

You can do this by going to Control> Other> Document Templates.

Choose the document template where you'd like to insert the SLD/Schematics, insert the placeholder "Embed Connection Diagram" in the document template, and save it. 

SLD/Schematics will be included in document template when you generate the document.
