OpenSolar has the advanced capability of being able to design systems in a matter of seconds by utilising the SolarTouch mechanism built into Studio.
Please watch this short, detailed video outlining the capabilities of designing with the 2D option in OpenSolar and refer to this step by step tutorial for any further queries that you may have regarding the Studio 2D design process.
Once you have opened a new project for the first time in studio you will be presented with a top-down google maps image of the the building.
- Click and drag the map in order to centre the building that you wish to be working on.
- Click on the button in the top left in order to add your first panel group
- Click and drag (holding the left mouse button) to lay down panels onto the roof.
Your first panel group is now done and OpenSolar will calculate all the figures for this system.
While you have a panel group selected, you are able to add and remove panels by clicking (or clicking and dragging) on either the empty grid spaces around the panels (adds a panel) or by clicking on a panel (removes that panel).
You can edit the azimuth and slope of the panel group on the left hand sidebar.
Note: For the Azimuth: North = 0˚, East = 90˚, South = 180˚ and West = 270˚
Within this left hand sidebar you will also have this option to add tilt racks, create spacing between panels and make the panels offset from one another by clicking on “Advanced Layout”
Please see this Article for instructions on how to select Pricing, Equipment and Stringing for your system within Studio mode.
